New Star Citizen Alpha 3.9.1 & Fleet Week Patch Updates

Welcome to some more Star Citizen it looks like Alpha 3.9.1 is going to be containing a few more bits and pieces than we first thought with it’s planned release on the 22nd of May for Fleet Week with the Cutlass Blue, New Ship Skins & Fleet Week Sales.

Star Citizen Alpha 3.9.1 will see the Cutlass Blue Flyable.

The Ship will also be available to test fly & purchase on the 30th of May during Drake’s Take Over of Fleet Week.

There was some datamined info and it appears to have a QED in a similar vein to that of the Mantis or at least one is available for it. I’ve been really looking forward to the Cutlass Blue, which is supposed to be the Armored Cutlass sometimes police cruiser used by security forces. Will it still have holding cells and be a bounty hunter ship, probably… tho maybe it will use those Prisoner Pods now that they made for the Caterpillar price of freedom mission.

We don’t have a confirmation on if the price will change, last time the Blue was on sale it was $150 tho.

Star Citizen Painting we are also getting some further ship customization with skins in 3.9.1 as well. Let me read you CI’s Statement:

“With the release of Alpha 3.9.1 and the introduction of Invictus Launch Week (Star Citizen’s Fleet Week), we’re excited to introduce a number of changes to how you can make your ship your own. Many of you will likely remember our Q&A on ship customization, and we’d like to start off by confirming that our long-term goals remain the same. While you will eventually be able to visit both manufacturer and aftermarket shops in-game for a variety of customization options, we’ve set up a temporary system to satiate the desire to change the exterior appearance of your ship.

So, what does this mean exactly? All ships will come with their base skin, and the ability to equip additional skins via mobiGlas. We’ll start rolling this out in Alpha 3.9.1 for a variety of ships, with more to come. The skins are indeed swappable, meaning that once applied, they are not permanently affixed to the ship, and you will still have the option to remove or swap skins.

For Fleet Week, you’ll find a bevy of skins available on the pledge store, and we’re happy to share you’ll also be able to purchase them in-game for aUEC in an upcoming patch. In time, we’ll continue to roll out new skins, and it’s worth noting that in the future we plan on making a variety of exclusive skins that are only earnable in-game for aUEC. This is important to us because it gives pilots out there making their living among the stars the opportunity to show off their hard-earned work. In regard to pricing, skins that can be pledged for with real money outside of the game will be based on a percentage of the ship’s hull cost, but are subject to a plateau to avoid large ships from having skins that are overpriced.

Looking ahead, we’ll begin the gradual process of migrating older paints to this new system, so as an example, previously released skins such as the various Aurora skins will soon be swappable and useable for Aurora owners. It’s also worth noting that some skins, such as the Valkyrie Liberator from CitizenCon 2948 will not be made available as these were intended to be limited and exclusive skins. If you own these currently, rep them with pride!

We’re looking forward to sharing more information soon! For now, we’ll see you in the ‘verse!”

So this isn’t ship painting yet BUT this should see skins being made for the game regularly.

It was a bit vague on if there will be exclusive PAID for by REAL MONEY ones, only mentioning that some will be only earnable in game. Costs wise… let’s hope they are too expensive

There was some further details on  the Free Fly Event and what ships will be available.

You just need a Star Citizen account to participate.

Most ships on display are available to test-fly for free BUT NOT ALL.

Different manufacturers take over every other day.

All ships available for the Free Fly will also be available in the pledge store during the event on their designated manufacturer days.

There will be a selection of ships that won’t be apart of the Free Fly, but will still be available on the pledge store.

Which ones? CI say Think firepower! It is a military show after all.

So that’s a confirmation that it isn’t all ships on SALE like an IAE but it will still be a large amount and I would expect anything that can be construed as being a military, combat, security or supporting those roles will be there. So that should be a lot of ships.

But I have seen emails from concierge and assuming they are accurate say the Polaris, Kraken, limited amounts of Idris and Javelin go on sale as well as some other big ships.

Zyloh suggested that the F8 WOULD NOT be on sale which will make a lot of people happy too.

Also SPOILERS for a couple of seconds… the leaked Origin G12 Rover I am suspecting might come in a few variants too rather than just the G12a, we will have to wait and see.

We might see some other surprises too… I am hoping they sell the updated Redeemer for example and still dream of the day we will have a Titan Suit sale.
