Star Citizen News 21st of February 2021

Hello & Welcome to the Star Citizen News for the week ending the 21st of February 2021. What’s Been Happening in the world of Star Citizen? We Summary it all from the last 7 days or so.

Star Citizen hit the 3 Million “Citizens” Milestone… this isn’t concurrent players OR even confirmed players… it’s play accounts so take it with a pinch of salt… I suspect the real number of accounts that are owned by unique people to be around half that personally.

It however is still a major milestone for sure and Star Citizen… and Star Citizen has seen a strong start to 2021 making almost £3.6m in January and that’s the 2nd highest it’s been for that month only being beaten by 2020s crazy record breaking funding.

Though as we move through February and the plethora of sales and events it looks like this might be the highest earning Feb ever! This is obviously partly also due to the Free Fly that’s currently on until the 25th which also brought a large amount of those new player accounts too.

NewsletterFeeling Festive and Flying Freely – February Frenzy Continues

There’s so much to celebrate in the ‘verse! The Red Festival continued this week with red and gold decorations, new 2951 Year of the Ram ship paints, and some hidden surprises. Have you found a red envelope yet? Keep a watchful eye out!

You can find these around landing zones and they are worth money! Go get them!

The February Free Fly event is also in full swing, which means everyone can fly in six fantastic ships at no cost until the event comes to a close on February 25. If you have someone you’ve been dying to bring into the ‘verse, now is the perfect opportunity!

Along with those Red Festival Ships, The Hercules Starlifter and a host of Starter Packages are all on sale until the 25th as well!

Sneak Peek Base of a Mountable FPS Gun we should be able to make use of these on the ground, in structures and in ships in the future with the first implementation planned in 3.13 PEW PEW PEW!

Inside Star CitizenSky High Summary

We saw some of the Commercial Platform for the Orison Landing Zone that’s planned for 3.14. Its basically a gentrified floating garden with all the shops and conveniences you would need at a landing zone.

Dynamic Wear and Dirt was also talked about, it builds up (or fades) in a believable way on vehicles based on environment and what’s happened to the ship. Along with this Cleaning Ships will also be part of 3.13. There is a video up on my Channel going over these in some detail, go check it out!

SCLiveLanding Zone Content Team Summary

Star Citizen Live was with the Landing Zone Content Team…

As Star Citizen has built out it’s planets and landing zones it’s learnt a lot and every new area is improved and uses the latest tech which will be applied to older areas as necessary too.

There are apparently locations in Star Citizen now that people have yet to find OR at least advertise the fact they have found them. There are Rooftop Party Areas around new Babbage that I haven’t actually seen BUT also potentially places on ArcCorp ect… GO EXPLORING!

Player hangars are low priority at the moment.

Amount of Hangars and Pads at each landing zone is not a hard rule, they place them and play around until it looks right.

Open Air Landing Pads at locations like Lorville may be added back in the future, AI should be using them too.

Eventually they will be adding the Lorville Workers District when there is gameplay associated with it.

Elevators are a bit magical at the moment, though they don’t teleport you, they do move in interesting ways, they will have truly physicalized ones if they are appropriate tho… like if they are visible externally.

In the future we may see streets and roads to drive around.

They are adding more Landing Zones on some of the current planets in Stanton.

They might make the Carrack spawn on Larger Pads and via Docking only in the future potentially.

The 3.12 PostMortem came out, that looked at what worked, what didn’t and what’s next for Star Citizen’s Live Builds. I’ve got a detailed video going over that which I’ll link below.

The XenoThreat PostMortem should be coming out in the coming days too and we will cover that as and when!

And that’s it for the News this week! We don’t know much about what’s happening next week beyond the potential for the XT PostMortem and the end of the events…

Are you playing in Star Citizen Alpha 3.12.1 at the moment, what do you think? Are you enjoying the freefly? Did you buy any ships recently? Whatever your thoughts I’d love to hear from you in the comments below.
