Star Citizen Alpha 3.16.1 – State of the Game

Star Citizen Alpha 3.16.1 just had a new patch on the PTU 3.16.1d in it’s march toward a Live release… let’s take a look at that patch and the State of the PTU as we ask when will 3.16.1 be live and what can we expect.

For this latest patch there has been yet another Derelict Spaceships Polish pass – Updating normal and rare loot crate rewards with healing items. Visarea/Lighting/Collision/Texture has had a polish pass there. Added derelict loot container animations. Fixed multiple issues where trip-mines were not present around derelicts.

There has also been a Quantum Travel Polish Pass – They Made additional stability fixes that should help Quantum travel engage more consistently

Bug Fix wise they have

  • Fixed an issue that was not allowing players to interact with party members on the front end menu
  • Fixed an issue causing players to see extremely bright, flashing lights around gas clouds near space stations
  • Fixed an issue causing players to become stuck in the queue to respawn at an ICU indefinitely
  • Fixed 2 Server Crashes

We do still have some Known Issues – A lot of these are major issues which do need to be solved

  • It is possible that some servers may stop updating their mission offerings. If the issue persists, try leaving the server, waiting a few minutes and rejoining the PU, or change region.
  • Attempting to log back into a ship bed may result in a long loading screen before being sent back to the Main Menu w/ Error 30009
  • Players will experience positional desync with one another after they have died and respawned (This latest build has logging enabled to help track this down)
  • Many mineable asteroids can’t be scanned
  • Spawn closets do not recognize unconscious AI and close the door on them possibly leaving mission critical AI unreachable
  • Ships sometimes wont appear in the VMA app unless the player spawns the ship first then spawns a different ship after, only then the ship will appear in VMA
  • Logging out from the Reliant ship’s bed and back in will cause the Reliant to be in flight mode and the player is stuck inside the ship sleeping area
  • Cannot Repair, Refuel, Restock at LEOs
  • Character’s head, mobiGlas, and other equipment are missing after being released from Klescher
  • Ship may despawn after player death instead of staying at it’s last location
  • Hammerhead doors to turrets may not open for players if they leave the seat during QT, trapping them inside

The XenoThreat playtests went extremely well imo despite missing the Javelin Capital Ship to actually defend… which is admittedly required for the missions to make sense.

I am expecting 3.16.1 to go live within a week or so… and you can probably expect Xenothreat 3.0 to go live soon after that, probably with a ship sale.

3.16.1 is likely going to have that new CNOU Hover Bike too.

Stability wise the patch is fantastic I haven’t had a crash for the whole of the PTU tho I can only really talk about mine and zin’s experience with that.

Performance is also fantastic and both are the best i’ve had ever in Star Citizen.

Also for those of you asking I am not expecting a Persistent Database reset with 3.16.1 and probably not for 3.17 either but that said it’s up to CI and if they need to they will.

I am expecting CI to run the Jumptown and Ninetails events again but after Xenothreat 3.0 is over most likely. Star Citizen does have a focused gameplay issue sometimes where certain content isn’t tested enough at least in my opinion as there is better or more profitable things to do in game. So focusing on just one “event” at a time seems sensible for testing BUT obviously I want dozens of dynamic events in the future.

Other News

I saw on SC Pipeline that there was a listing for an LA CitizenCon 2022 for end of September that then got “rescheduled”. Please bear in mind that nothing for CitizenCon has been confirmed by any means and this is all very much a weird one.
